Job description
A well-regarded 11–18 secondary school in the Lancaster area is seeking an enthusiastic and reflective Teacher of English to join its established English department from January 2026. This is a full-time, permanent position, suitable for an experienced teacher or a confident early-career teacher looking to work in a supportive and academically focused environment. The school serves a mixed local community and has a strong reputation for calm behaviour, high expectations and excellent pastoral care. English is a core strength of the curriculum and plays a central role in shaping literacy, confidence and critical thinking across the school. The Role You will teach English across Key Stages 3 and 4 , with the opportunity to teach A-Level for candidates with the appropriate experience. The department follows a carefully sequenced curriculum that balances classic literature with modern and diverse texts, ensuring pupils develop both academic rigour and a genuine love of reading and writing. Key aspects of the role include: Planning and delivering engaging English lessons with a clear focus on progress Teaching Language and Literature at GCSE, with strong schemes already in place Using formative assessment and feedback to support pupils of all abilities Contributing to departmental planning, moderation and shared resources Supporting enrichment activities such as reading groups, theatre trips or writing clubs The English Department The English team is experienced, collaborative and well-led. Planning is shared sensibly, marking expectations are realistic, and new ideas are welcomed. Staff work closely together to ensure consistency while allowing individual teaching styles to flourish.
