Job description
Location: Camden, North London Role: SEN Teaching Assistant (Primary) Start Date: Immediate / September Contract: Full-time, Term Time Only (Long-term to Permanent) Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience and local authority scales Role Overview A highly inclusive and well-regarded primary school in the London Borough of Camden is seeking a committed and enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistant to support pupils with additional needs across Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. This role offers the opportunity to work in a diverse and supportive school community where inclusion and pupil wellbeing are at the heart of everything they do. You will be supporting pupils with a range of needs including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), SEMH needs, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, and mild learning difficulties . Support will be provided on both a 1:1 basis and in small groups , depending on pupil requirements and EHCP targets. About the School This school is known for its inclusive ethos, strong community links, and commitment to supporting the whole child. The SEN provision is well-developed, with clear systems and strong leadership from an experienced SENCo. Staff work collaboratively and are supported through regular training and mentoring. The school provides a structured, nurturing environment that promotes positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and academic progress. SEN Teaching Assistants are valued members of the team and play a key role in the school’s inclusive approach. Key Responsibilities Provide targeted SEN support within the classroom and intervention spaces Support pupils with emotional regulation and positive behaviour strategies Assist with communication development and social skills Help pupils access the curriculum through differentiated support Implement EHCP targets and individual support plans Support pupils during transitions, breaktimes, and structured activities Contribute to SEN reviews and progress monitoring Build strong, positive relationships with pupils and staff The Ideal Candidate Experience supporting children with SEN in a school or similar setting Calm, patient, and resilient approach Strong communication and teamwork skills Understanding of inclusive practice and behaviour support strategies Willingness to engage in SEN training and professional development Commitment to safeguarding and child-centred practice Candidates with backgrounds in education, childcare, psychology, youth work, or care are encouraged to apply.
