Job description
The Opportunity A high-achieving and inclusive secondary school in Derby is seeking a creative and passionate Drama Teacher to join its Performing Arts faculty from January 2026. This full-time, permanent position offers an exciting opportunity for an Early Career Teacher to begin their teaching journey in a well-established, supportive and forward-thinking environment. What We’re Looking For We are seeking a teacher who: Holds QTS, PGCE, or will be newly qualified in 2026 Has a strong background in Drama, Theatre Studies or Performing Arts Can plan and deliver engaging, practical lessons that inspire creativity and confidence Uses assessment and feedback to promote progress and develop performance skills Is reflective, enthusiastic and keen to contribute to the wider creative life of the school Experience directing school productions, leading workshops, or supporting extra-curricular activities would be an advantage. The Performing Arts department plays a central role in school life. Drama is taught in well-equipped studios, and the department stages regular performances, showcases and theatre visits. Students are encouraged to explore a wide range of performance styles, from devised theatre to classic and contemporary texts, helping them to build confidence, creativity and communication skills. As an Early Career Teacher, you will benefit from an experienced and supportive mentor, structured induction and regular opportunities to develop your teaching practice. You will prepare students for assessments and productions, encouraging them to take pride in their work and explore their individual talents. Beyond the classroom, you will contribute to the school’s rich cultural life through performances, theatre trips, and extracurricular clubs. You’ll be supported to develop your skills as a practitioner and educator within a nurturing and ambitious environment.
