Job description
Attendance Officer – Outstanding Secondary School – Colchester Start Date: As soon as possible Contract: Full-time, Permanent Salary: Paid to scale School Information This Outstanding 11–18 secondary school in Colchester is widely recognised for its strong academic outcomes, high expectations, and structured pastoral systems. The school serves a diverse and ambitious community and has consistently maintained excellent attendance figures well above national averages. Leadership places significant emphasis on attendance as a driver of academic success and safeguarding. Clear systems, early intervention strategies, and strong parental engagement are embedded across the school. The school is now seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Attendance Officer to further strengthen its attendance and punctuality systems. Role Overview The Attendance Officer will oversee daily attendance procedures and work closely with pastoral leaders to improve student attendance. Key responsibilities include: Monitoring and recording daily attendance Identifying attendance patterns and concerns Contacting parents regarding absences Conducting attendance meetings Liaising with external agencies where required Producing attendance reports for senior leaders Managing late procedures Supporting safeguarding referrals linked to absence Contributing to whole-school attendance strategies Maintaining accurate SIMS/attendance records The role requires accuracy, persistence, and strong communication skills. Pastoral & Safeguarding Structure The Attendance Officer works closely with Heads of Year, the Safeguarding Lead, and senior leadership within a structured pastoral framework. Candidate Requirements Experience in attendance or pastoral administration Strong data and reporting skills Ability to engage positively with families Organised and methodical approach Good knowledge of safeguarding procedures Professional and resilient attitude Commitment to improving student outcomes Application To apply, please send your CV as soon as possible.
