Job description
The Headteacher of this well-regarded secondary school in Ipswich is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and committed Music Early Career Teacher (ECT) to join a supportive, creative, and well-organised Music department from January . Music is a valued subject within the school and plays an important role in developing students’ confidence, creativity, and engagement with the wider school community. This is an excellent opportunity for a Music ECT looking to begin their teaching career in a school that prioritises structured mentoring, high-quality professional development, and staff wellbeing. The Music department is collaborative and experienced, with clear schemes of work, shared resources, and a strong culture of support for early career teachers. You will teach Music across KS3 and KS4, delivering engaging lessons that develop students’ practical performance skills, theoretical understanding, and appreciation of a wide range of musical styles and traditions. There are also opportunities to contribute to extracurricular music, including ensembles, performances, and school events. What the school is looking for: Ipswich January Start Music Teacher – ECT Music across KS3 and KS4 A passionate and motivated trainee or newly qualified teacher Strong subject knowledge and enthusiasm for Music education The ability to inspire confidence and participation in students A reflective approach and willingness to develop classroom practice Good organisation and communication skills The successful Music ECT will benefit from a structured ECT induction programme, regular mentoring from experienced Music staff, reduced timetable where appropriate, and access to targeted CPD. The school is committed to ensuring ECTs feel supported, confident, and well prepared for long-term success.
