Job description
We are seeking a patient, compassionate, and dedicated SEN 1:1 Teaching Assistant to join a supportive primary school in Reading, starting as soon as possible. This role is ideal for someone passionate about making a difference to pupils with additional needs, helping them access the curriculum and thrive both academically and socially. The school has a strong inclusive ethos, where staff work collaboratively to provide personalised support and promote pupil wellbeing. Leadership is approachable, supportive, and committed to professional development for all staff members. The Role As a SEN 1:1 Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with a pupil requiring personalised support. You will assist them with classroom tasks, provide guidance, and help develop independence, confidence, and positive learning behaviours. You will collaborate with class teachers, SENCo, and other support staff to implement strategies outlined in the pupil’s Individual Education Plan (IEP) and monitor progress. Key Responsibilities Provide one-to-one support for a pupil with SEN Assist with learning activities and classroom tasks Support the implementation of IEP targets Encourage independence, resilience, and positive behaviour Observe and record pupil progress and provide feedback to staff Support social, emotional, and communication development Work collaboratively with teaching staff and professionals Maintain a safe, structured, and nurturing learning environment Who We’re Looking For The ideal candidate will: Have experience supporting pupils with SEN in a school or similar setting Be patient, empathetic, and adaptable Demonstrate strong communication and teamwork skills Be proactive, reliable, and flexible Show a commitment to inclusion, safeguarding, and pupil wellbeing What the School Offers A supportive and experienced SEN team Opportunities for professional development and training Guidance and leadership support Positive and inclusive school culture Engaged and motivated pupils Well-resourced classrooms and learning environments Location The school is located in Reading, with excellent transport links and a welcoming local community.
