Job description
Position: SEN Teaching Assistant Location: Kentish Town, Camden Borough, London Pay Rate: £100–£130 per day, dependent on experience Contract Type: Full-time, long-term with potential for permanent placement Working Hours: Monday to Friday, term time only Start Date: Immediate or next academic term Introduction A dynamic and inclusive primary school in Kentish Town , within the London Borough of Camden, is seeking a committed and compassionate Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant (SEN TA) to join its experienced SEN team. Pupil Profiles and SEN Needs You will work with pupils presenting a range of special educational needs, including: Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs Speech, language, and communication difficulties Sensory processing differences Learning delays and developmental challenges Support may be provided one-to-one or in small group settings , depending on individual pupil needs and intervention plans. Some pupils require consistent support throughout the day, while others benefit from targeted interventions at specific times, such as literacy, numeracy, or social skills sessions. Key Responsibilities As an SEN Teaching Assistant, your duties will include: Providing personalised support to pupils with SEN to help them access learning Assisting pupils to engage with lessons and classroom activities Collaborating with class teachers to adapt resources and teaching strategies Implementing strategies outlined in EHCPs and individual support plans Supporting pupils’ emotional regulation and behaviour management Encouraging positive communication and social interaction Assisting with transitions between lessons and school activities Supervising pupils at break times and lunchtimes Observing and recording pupil progress and behaviour Providing feedback to teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals Supporting personal care needs when appropriate Promoting independence while providing structured support Contributing to a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment The Ideal Candidate The school is seeking someone who is: Patient, empathetic, and emotionally resilient Passionate about supporting children with additional learning, social, or emotional needs Flexible and adaptable to the changing needs of pupils A confident communicator and team player Dedicated to inclusive education and making a difference in children’s lives Previous experience in SEN or educational settings is desirable but not essential. Applicants with experience in care work, youth work, behaviour support, or mental health services are also encouraged to apply if they demonstrate commitment and enthusiasm. Skills and Attributes Key skills and qualities include: Understanding of SEN and inclusive educational practice Ability to remain calm, patient, and consistent under pressure Strong observation, reporting, and communication skills Confidence implementing behaviour and support plans Willingness to engage in training and professional development Proactive, positive, and solution-focused approach Commitment to safeguarding and promoting pupil welfare Formal SEN qualifications are not required, as the school provides comprehensive training and mentoring.
