Job description
Are you an ambitious teacher of Design & Technology ready to step into a leadership role? A prestigious independent school in Reading is seeking an exceptional Head of Design & Technology to lead its thriving department from January 2026. This is a full-time, permanent position offering the chance to shape the future of DT within a school known for academic excellence, innovation, and outstanding facilities. The Role Full-time Head of DT, starting January 2026 Lead and develop the Design & Technology department across KS3–KS5 Teach DT specialisms (Product Design, Resistant Materials, or Engineering Design) to GCSE and A-Level Drive curriculum innovation and departmental strategy to inspire creativity and achievement Line-manage and support colleagues, fostering high standards of teaching and learning Oversee enrichment activities, including design competitions, STEM clubs, and links with industry The School Located in Reading, this leading independent day and boarding school educates over 1,000 pupils and is renowned for its excellent academic results and vibrant co-curricular life. The school offers outstanding resources, including purpose-built workshops, CAD/CAM facilities, and cutting-edge technology to support design and engineering projects. Creativity and innovation are celebrated, and DT is a popular subject at both GCSE and A-Level. The school’s ethos combines traditional values with a forward-looking approach to preparing students for future pathways. What We’re Looking For QTS/PGCE (or equivalent) with strong subject knowledge in Design & Technology A proven track record of excellent classroom teaching at KS4/KS5 Experience in curriculum leadership or a clear readiness to step into a Head of Department role Strong organisational, interpersonal, and communication skills Commitment to inspiring students and fostering a culture of creativity and excellence Why Join?
