Job description
A well-established and academically ambitious secondary school in Cambridge is seeking an experienced Senior School Receptionist to lead its front-of-house provision. The school has a strong reputation locally for high standards, a calm learning environment and excellent pastoral care. The reception area is a busy and highly visible part of the school, and this role is central to maintaining its welcoming yet professional atmosphere. This is not simply a desk-based post; it is a leadership role within the administrative team, requiring confidence, discretion and the ability to coordinate multiple demands effectively. The Role As Senior Receptionist, you will oversee the daily running of the front office, ensuring that visitors, parents, staff and students are greeted and supported efficiently. You will also provide guidance to other administrative staff during peak periods and act as a key liaison between reception and senior leadership. Key responsibilities include: • Managing the main reception area and ensuring safeguarding procedures are followed for all visitors • Handling parent enquiries sensitively and professionally • Coordinating student sign-in and sign-out processes • Supporting student medical and attendance communication • Maintaining accurate records using the school’s MIS system • Assisting with administrative tasks linked to events, open evenings and examinations • Overseeing reception cover rotas and supporting administrative colleagues The role requires excellent multitasking skills and the ability to remain calm and organised during busy school periods. The School Environment This Cambridge secondary school is well-structured and operates with clear systems and high expectations. Leadership is visible and supportive, and the administrative team is considered an integral part of school life. The reception space is modern and well-equipped, positioned at the heart of the school’s main entrance. Administrative systems are established and training will be provided where required. Staff describe the working culture as professional, respectful and collaborative. Who We’re Looking For The ideal candidate will: • Have previous experience in a school reception or administrative role • Demonstrate exceptional communication and interpersonal skills • Be confident managing sensitive information • Be highly organised with strong attention to detail • Show initiative and the ability to prioritise independently Experience using SIMS, Arbor or similar systems would be advantageous. What’s On Offer • A key, visible role within a respected Cambridge secondary school • Supportive leadership and structured administrative systems • Opportunities for professional development • A stable and professional working environment • Varied responsibilities within a well-led team This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced receptionist who wants to take on a senior position within a high-performing and well-regarded school community.
