School Business Manager Full time | Permanent January 2026 start Outstanding Operations & Compliance department A high-performing secondary school in Birmingham is recruiting a School Business Manager for a January 2026 start. The school is seeking an organised, forward-thinking leader who can oversee finance, HR, premises, and compliance, while contributing to the wider strategic direction of the school. School Information This large mixed secondary school, rated ‘Outstanding’ , educates over 1,700 students and is widely recognised for its exceptional teaching, inclusive culture, and strong community relationships. Situated near excellent bus and rail routes, the school is easily accessible from across Birmingham, the West Midlands, Wolverhampton, and Solihull. The Operations department is a core pillar of the school’s success. With specialist teams for Finance, HR, Site & Facilities, IT, and Administration, the SBM will have strategic oversight of daily operations and long-term planning. The leadership team is supportive, ambitious, and committed to staff development. Facilities include newly rebuilt teaching blocks, specialist technology workshops, cutting-edge IT systems, an indoor sports centre, and enhanced sixth-form spaces. The school is engaged in ongoing campus improvement projects, with the SBM central to budget monitoring and project implementation. Extracurricular activities include enterprise programmes, arts enrichment, STEM clubs, and strong partnerships with local businesses and universities. Experience and Qualifications Proven experience in school business management or senior operations roles Strong financial literacy with experience managing large budgets Understanding of HR processes, payroll, H&S, and compliance Ability to lead multiple teams and drive continuous improvement Professional qualifications (AAT, CIPFA, HR qualifications, CSBM/DSBM) desirable Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills Salary The salary for this position will be paid to scale based on experience.
