Job description
We are seeking a patient, compassionate, and reliable SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Leicester, starting as soon as possible. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting pupils with additional learning needs and helping them achieve their full potential academically, socially, and emotionally. Staff work closely together to provide targeted support for pupils with SEND, ensuring every child can access the curriculum and participate fully in school life. Leadership is approachable and supportive, offering guidance, mentoring, and professional development to help teaching assistants excel in their roles. The Role As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work alongside class teachers to provide one-to-one or small-group support for pupils with additional needs. You will assist in implementing Individual Education Plans (IEPs), providing targeted interventions, and supporting classroom management to create a positive and inclusive learning environment. Monitoring pupil progress and providing feedback to teachers is an essential part of the role. You will play a key role in promoting pupils’ independence, confidence, and resilience, helping them thrive in all aspects of school life. Effective communication with teachers, parents, and external professionals is essential to ensure coordinated and consistent support. Key Responsibilities Support teaching and learning for pupils with SEND Assist in implementing and monitoring Individual Education Plans (IEPs) Provide one-to-one or small-group support for pupils who require additional help Promote independence, confidence, and positive learning behaviours Observe and record pupil progress and report to the class teacher Work collaboratively with teachers, colleagues, and external professionals Support pupils’ social, emotional, and communication development Maintain a safe, structured, and stimulating classroom environment Contribute to staff meetings, CPD sessions, and school initiatives Uphold safeguarding procedures and promote pupil welfare Who We’re Looking For The ideal candidate will: Have previous experience supporting pupils with SEND in a school setting Be patient, compassionate, and enthusiastic Demonstrate strong communication and teamwork skills Be proactive, reliable, and adaptable Show a strong commitment to inclusion, safeguarding, and child wellbeing Location The school is located in Leicester, with excellent transport links and a supportive local community.
