Job description
A high achieving and ambitious secondary school in Bristol is seeking an experienced and strategic Head of Design & Technology to lead its successful department from April 2026. This is an outstanding opportunity to shape curriculum direction and drive excellence within a well-resourced and academically strong environment. Design & Technology is a popular and high-performing subject within the school, with strong outcomes at GCSE and KS5 provision across Product Design and related disciplines. The department benefits from modern workshops, quality equipment, and a collaborative teaching team. The Role Leading and managing the Design & Technology department across KS3, KS4, and KS5 Driving high standards of teaching, learning, and assessment Developing an ambitious, industry-relevant DT curriculum Overseeing workshop safety, compliance, and resource management Line managing and mentoring DT staff Monitoring pupil progress and implementing attainment strategies Managing departmental budgets and contributing to strategic planning Supporting whole-school improvement and leadership initiatives The Ideal Candidate Will Have Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) A degree in Design & Technology or related discipline Proven experience teaching DT at secondary level, including examination groups Previous leadership experience within a department A strong track record of raising standards and improving outcomes Excellent organisational and strategic leadership skills Strong knowledge of workshop health & safety compliance This Bristol secondary school is recognised for its strong academic standards, structured systems, and supportive leadership team. The DT department is a key area within the school’s curriculum, offering excellent facilities and opportunities for innovation.
