Location: North London Job Title: ARP Teaching Assistant Sector: Primary Education / SEN / Inclusion Contract Type: Full-Time, Long-Term (Term Time Only) Start Date: ASAP or Next Term Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience About the School and Provision A well-established and inclusive primary school in North London is seeking a highly committed and compassionate ARP Teaching Assistant to join their Additionally Resourced Provision (ARP). The ARP supports pupils with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) who require a more structured, specialist learning environment alongside opportunities for inclusion within mainstream classes. The provision primarily supports pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), speech and language needs, sensory processing difficulties, and associated social, emotional, and behavioural challenges. The school places a strong emphasis on personalised learning, emotional wellbeing, and the development of independence, ensuring that every pupil is supported to achieve their full potential. The successful ARP Teaching Assistant will become part of a skilled and supportive SEN team, working closely with teachers, therapists, and external professionals to deliver high-quality support tailored to each pupil’s individual needs. About the Role This is a demanding yet extremely rewarding role that requires patience, flexibility, and a deep commitment to inclusive education. As an ARP Teaching Assistant, you will work both within the ARP setting and, where appropriate, alongside pupils in mainstream classrooms to support access to learning and social integration. You will provide one-to-one and small group support, assist with differentiated learning activities, and support pupils with communication, emotional regulation, and sensory needs. Some pupils may require assistance with personal care, hygiene routines, or medical needs, and candidates must be comfortable supporting these aspects with dignity and care. Key Responsibilities Key responsibilities of the ARP Teaching Assistant role include: Providing consistent one-to-one support for pupils with EHCPs Supporting small group learning activities within the ARP Assisting pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition and sensory processing needs Supporting communication using visual aids, structured routines, and alternative communication methods Implementing strategies recommended by speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, and educational psychologists Supporting emotional regulation and behaviour using positive, trauma-informed approaches Assisting pupils during transitions between ARP and mainstream classrooms Supporting personal care, toileting, feeding, or medical needs where required Monitoring progress and contributing to EHCP reviews and meetings Maintaining accurate records and observations Creating a calm, structured, and nurturing learning environment Supporting safeguarding, health, and safety procedures at all times The Ideal Candidate The school is seeking an ARP Teaching Assistant who demonstrates: Previous experience working with children with SEN, particularly ASD A strong understanding of EHCPs and personalised learning Patience, empathy, and emotional resilience The ability to remain calm and supportive in challenging situations Strong communication and teamwork skills A proactive and flexible approach to supporting pupils Experience in specialist provisions, SEN schools, ARPs, or care/support settings is highly desirable. However, candidates with relevant transferable experience and a strong commitment to SEN education are also encouraged to apply.
