Job description
A well-regarded secondary school in Hertfordshire is seeking to appoint a Food Technician for an immediate start on a full-time, long-term basis , with the potential to become permanent for the right candidate. This is an excellent opportunity to join a supportive and forward-thinking Design Technology department within a stable and well-led school. The School This is a large, inclusive 11–18 secondary school with a strong reputation for behaviour, safeguarding, and staff support. The school prides itself on providing a calm, well-structured learning environment where students are respectful, motivated, and well supported to achieve their potential. Leadership within the school is highly visible and approachable, and staff wellbeing is taken seriously. The Food Technology department is well resourced, with modern teaching kitchens, up-to-date equipment, and strong technician support already in place. The Role You will support the Food Technology teachers with the smooth day-to-day running of the department. Your duties will include: Preparing ingredients and equipment for practical lessons Ensuring all health and safety procedures are followed at all times Maintaining cleanliness of workspaces, utensils, and storage areas Stock control, ordering supplies, and monitoring inventory Supporting students during practical sessions where required Assisting with displays, coursework preparation, and moderation support You will play a key role in ensuring lessons run efficiently and safely, allowing teachers to focus fully on teaching and learning. The Ideal Candidate The school is seeking a reliable and proactive individual who: Has previous experience in a school, food setting, or similar environment Has strong organisation and time-management skills Understands health and safety and food hygiene procedures Works well independently and as part of a team Has a positive, flexible, and professional attitude Enjoys working within an educational environment Salary & Benefits Competitive hourly or daily rate Long-term, stable position Supportive leadership and department team Ongoing training and development opportunities This role is ideal for an experienced technician or a candidate looking to build long-term school-based support experience.
