Job description
A prestigious boarding school in Sussex is seeking an experienced and strategic Estates Manager to take overall responsibility for the management, development, and compliance of the school’s estate. This is a senior operational role within a complex residential setting, requiring strong leadership, technical expertise, and a proactive approach to long-term planning. The Role You will have full responsibility for the safe, efficient, and effective management of the school’s buildings, grounds, and infrastructure, supporting both the academic and boarding environments. Working closely with senior leadership, you will oversee day-to-day operations while also leading longer-term estates and capital projects. Key responsibilities include: Leading the management and maintenance of the entire school estate, including boarding houses Ensuring full compliance with health & safety legislation, statutory inspections, and risk assessments Managing planned and reactive maintenance schedules across the site Overseeing capital works, refurbishments, and long-term estates development projects Managing estates budgets, procurement, and contractor performance Line-managing site, maintenance, and facilities staff Ensuring site security, emergency planning, and business continuity procedures Supporting sustainability and energy-efficiency initiatives The School Environment This Sussex boarding school is known for its high standards, strong pastoral care, and well-maintained campus. The estate is extensive and varied, supporting teaching, boarding, sports, and extracurricular provision. Estates management is viewed as a strategic function, with clear leadership support and strong investment in facilities.
