Job description
Location: Hanwell, Ealing, West London Position: EYFS Teaching Assistant Contract Type: Full-Time | Term-Time Only Start Date: Immediate / Next Academic Term Salary: Competitive School Overview This Hanwell primary school offers a vibrant, inclusive, and nurturing EYFS environment. The school places strong emphasis on inclusion, ensuring all children, including those with additional needs such as autism, ADHD, and speech and language difficulties, are supported to reach their full potential. EYFS Teaching Assistants are crucial in providing personalised support and helping children access learning in a safe and nurturing environment. Role Purpose The EYFS Teaching Assistant will support Nursery and Reception children aged 3–5, under the guidance of class teachers and the EYFS lead. The role involves assisting with learning, behavioural support, and social development, with a particular focus on SEN and EAL learners. Key objectives include: Supporting access to the EYFS curriculum for all children Providing one-to-one or small group interventions for SEN/EAL pupils Encouraging independence, social skills, and emotional regulation Supporting both play-based and structured learning activities Key Responsibilities Assist in the delivery of the EYFS curriculum, including early literacy, numeracy, phonics, and creative learning Provide targeted support for children with SEN, EAL, or social-emotional challenges Encourage positive behaviour and help children develop emotional regulation skills Support classroom routines, transitions, snack times, and outdoor activities Observe, assess, and record children’s progress in line with EYFS standards Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCO, specialists, and parents to ensure consistent support Maintain safeguarding, health, and safety standards Support emotional wellbeing, social development, and engagement in learning The Ideal Candidate The school seeks a nurturing, patient, and adaptable EYFS Teaching Assistant who: Has experience or strong interest in early years / EYFS settings Understands child development and EYFS framework requirements Can confidently support SEN and EAL learners Maintains a calm, empathetic, and consistent approach Demonstrates excellent communication, teamwork, and organisational skills Can adapt to a busy, multicultural classroom environment Training and Development EYFS induction and ongoing CPD opportunities SEN and inclusion training including autism awareness and EAL support Behaviour management and emotional wellbeing strategies Safeguarding and child protection updates What the School Offers Supportive and experienced EYFS leadership and teaching team Inclusive, child-focused ethos emphasising wellbeing and development Well-resourced classrooms and stimulating outdoor learning areas Opportunities for professional growth, CPD, and progression A highly rewarding role making a real impact on early childhood learning Safeguarding All appointments are subject to enhanced DBS checks and satisfactory references.
