Job description
Location: Barking, East London Job Title: SEN Teaching Assistant Contract Type: Full-Time, Term-Time Only Salary: £90–£110 per day Start Date: ASAP or Next Term About the Opportunity A well-regarded and inclusive school in Barking, East London , is recruiting a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to support pupils with special educational needs on a full-time basis. This is a long-term opportunity for someone who is passionate about SEN education and eager to contribute to a supportive and structured learning environment. The school supports pupils with a wide range of needs, including ASD, ADHD, SEMH, speech and language difficulties, sensory processing needs, and learning disabilities . SEN pupils are supported both within mainstream classrooms and in small intervention groups, depending on individual needs. Role Responsibilities As an SEN Teaching Assistant, your role will involve: Supporting pupils with SEN on a 1:1 and small group basis Assisting children with ASD, SEMH, and behavioural challenges Helping pupils access the curriculum through differentiated support Supporting emotional regulation and social development Implementing behaviour management strategies in line with school policy Working collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and support staff Supporting learning during lessons, interventions, and unstructured times Monitoring and recording pupil progress Promoting independence and positive self-esteem Assisting with personal care where required Maintaining safeguarding standards at all times Candidate Requirements The ideal candidate will have: Experience working with SEN children or vulnerable individuals A calm, patient, and resilient personality Confidence in managing challenging behaviour Strong communication and teamwork skills A genuine interest in child development and SEN education A flexible and proactive approach Previous experience in schools, SEN provisions, care settings, or youth work is highly desirable, though not essential for the right candidate.
