Job description
A welcoming and well-structured 11–18 secondary school in north Derbyshire is seeking an enthusiastic Early Career Teacher of History to join its supportive Humanities department from January 2026. This school has a strong reputation for developing new teachers and offers a carefully planned induction programme that allows ECTs to grow in confidence, skill and subject expertise. History is a well-established subject with strong outcomes and a clear, coherent curriculum. The Role This is an ideal first post for an ECT. You will teach History across KS3 and KS4, with the opportunity to gain KS5 experience as your confidence develops. The department provides detailed schemes of work, shared resources and collaborative planning time, allowing you to focus on refining your classroom practice. You will: Deliver engaging lessons supported by clear curriculum planning Develop strong routines for behaviour, retrieval and assessment Receive regular coaching, observation and feedback Work closely with experienced History specialists who mentor ECTs effectively The School Rated Good by Ofsted, the school is known for calm classrooms, strong behaviour systems and excellent pastoral care. Senior leaders are visible and approachable, and staff wellbeing is prioritised through realistic expectations and protected planning time. ECT Support Reduced timetable in line with ECF requirements Dedicated subject mentor with weekly meetings High-quality in-house and external CPD Support with marking, assessment and workload management This is an excellent opportunity for a History ECT seeking a structured, encouraging environment in which to build a strong foundation for their teaching career.
