Job description
A forward-thinking and high-achieving secondary school in Cambridge is seeking a creative and skilled Design Technology Teacher to join their successful department. This is a full-time, permanent opportunity starting ASAP, suitable for both experienced teachers and Early Career Teachers (ECTs) who are passionate about practical learning and innovation. About the Role The successful candidate will teach Design Technology across Key Stages 3 and 4, with the possibility of KS5 depending on experience and specialism (Product Design, Resistant Materials, Engineering, or Graphics). You will be responsible for delivering engaging and hands-on lessons that develop students’ technical knowledge, creativity, and problem-solving skills. The role involves planning and preparing practical sessions, ensuring health and safety compliance in workshop environments, assessing student progress, and contributing to curriculum development. You will also have opportunities to support extracurricular clubs, competitions, and STEM initiatives that extend learning beyond the classroom. About the School This well-regarded Cambridge secondary school is known for strong academic outcomes, positive behaviour, and a supportive leadership team. The Design Technology department benefits from modern workshops, CAD facilities, and dedicated technician support. Collaboration and professional growth are strongly encouraged, with structured CPD and mentoring available. Key Responsibilities • Deliver high-quality Design Technology lessons across KS3/4 (KS5 optional) • Promote creativity, innovation, and technical precision • Ensure safe and effective use of tools and machinery • Monitor, assess, and track student progress • Contribute to departmental planning and curriculum enhancement • Support enrichment activities and STEM projects Experience and Qualifications • Degree in Design Technology or a related field • QTS or PGCE • Experience teaching secondary DT (ECTs welcome) • Strong classroom and workshop management skills • Commitment to high standards of teaching and learning Salary MPS/UPS (dependent on experience).
