Job description
A large and well-established 11–18 comprehensive school in Sheffield is seeking a knowledgeable and committed Geography Specialist to join its successful Humanities faculty. The school has a strong academic profile, positive behaviour culture and a clear focus on delivering a broad, knowledge-rich curriculum that prepares students for further study and life beyond school. Geography is a popular and growing subject, with strong GCSE uptake and increasing interest at A-Level. Students respond particularly well to the subject’s balance of real-world relevance and analytical challenge. The Opportunity You will teach Geography across Key Stages 3 and 4, with the possibility of Key Stage 5 depending on experience. The department delivers a carefully sequenced curriculum that moves from core physical processes to complex human and global themes, embedding fieldwork, data interpretation and extended writing throughout. The school makes good use of its location, incorporating local urban regeneration projects, river studies and rural land-use patterns into the curriculum. Fieldwork is well organised and supported, with clear systems in place for risk assessment and trip planning. The Department The Humanities faculty operates as a cohesive unit, sharing planning time and moderating assessments collaboratively. The Geography team has developed strong shared resources and exam-focused revision materials that support consistency across classes. Classrooms are based in a dedicated Humanities block equipped with visualisers and shared digital mapping tools. Staff benefit from access to centralised curriculum resources, reducing duplication of planning. The School Culture This Sheffield secondary is known for its strong leadership and clear expectations.
