Job description
We are seeking a patient, compassionate, and committed SEN Teaching Assistant to join a supportive primary school in Wolverhampton, starting ASAP. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting children with special educational needs and helping them achieve their full potential in a nurturing and inclusive environment. The school prides itself on its inclusive ethos and strong SEN provision. Pupils with a variety of additional needs, including autism, ADHD, SEMH, and learning difficulties, are supported through targeted 1:1 or small-group interventions. Staff work collaboratively with class teachers, the SENCO, and other support professionals to provide personalised support for every child. As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in helping pupils access the curriculum, develop independence, and build confidence. You will assist with both academic tasks and social-emotional learning, ensuring children feel supported and valued throughout the school day. Key Responsibilities Provide 1:1 or small-group support to pupils with SEN Assist pupils with academic tasks, social interaction, and communication development Implement strategies from EHCPs and individual support plans Encourage positive behaviour, independence, and self-confidence Support pupils during lessons, transitions, and break times Monitor, record, and report pupil progress to teachers and SENCO Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCO, and support staff Create a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment Promote pupils’ social skills and peer engagement Follow safeguarding, health and safety, and school policies The Ideal Candidate The successful candidate will: Have experience supporting pupils with SEN in a school setting Be patient, empathetic, and resilient Have strong communication and teamwork skills Be proactive, adaptable, and reliable Be committed to safeguarding and promoting pupil wellbeing Be enthusiastic about supporting the development of children with additional needs The school is located in Wolverhampton, with excellent transport links and a welcoming, supportive local community.
