Job description
A respected independent co-educational school in Lincolnshire is seeking to appoint an inspiring and academically strong Teacher of English to join its well-established English department. This is a full-time, permanent position within a school known for its strong academic outcomes, excellent pastoral care and close-knit community. English plays a central role in the school’s academic life, with pupils achieving consistently strong results at both GCSE and A-Level. The department is valued for its intellectual ambition, supportive culture and commitment to developing confident, articulate learners. The Role You will teach English Language and Literature across KS3–KS5 , delivering a broad and ambitious curriculum that encourages critical thinking, creativity and confident expression. At Key Stage 3, teaching focuses on building strong reading habits, analytical skills and written fluency through a carefully chosen range of classic and contemporary texts. Lessons place a strong emphasis on discussion, interpretation and structured writing. At GCSE and A-Level, pupils benefit from small class sizes and close academic support. Teaching focuses on depth of understanding, independent analysis and the development of an academic voice, with students regularly progressing to competitive university destinations. You will be encouraged to contribute your own ideas and subject interests while working within a coherent, well-sequenced curriculum. The English Department The English department is a collegial and experienced team that values collaboration and professional dialogue. Schemes of work and assessments are thoughtfully designed and shared, ensuring clarity and consistency across year groups. Department meetings focus on pedagogy, curriculum development and student progress, creating an intellectually stimulating environment for staff.
