Pastoral Support Officer – Outstanding Secondary School – Milton Keynes Start Date: As soon as possible Contract: Full-time, Permanent Salary: Paid to scale School Information This Outstanding 11–18 secondary school in Milton Keynes is widely recognised for its highly effective pastoral systems, exceptional pupil behaviour, and strong community values. The school is large, oversubscribed, and set within a modern campus with excellent facilities, including a dedicated Pastoral Support Centre, mentoring rooms, and multi-agency meeting spaces. The school prides itself on its proactive approach to supporting students’ emotional, social, behavioural, and academic welfare. Each year group has a well-resourced pastoral team, and the school works closely with external agencies, mental health services, family support workers, and attendance teams. The environment is nurturing, calm, and built on mutual respect, with safeguarding and pupil wellbeing at the core of its values. Staff benefit from extensive CPD in behaviour management, restorative practice, trauma-informed approaches, and safeguarding procedures. Leadership is highly supportive and places strong emphasis on staff wellbeing and professional development. Role Information The school is seeking a committed and empathetic Pastoral Support Officer to join their well-established pastoral team. The role focuses on supporting students who may be experiencing socio-emotional challenges, behavioural difficulties, or barriers to learning. Key responsibilities include: Providing daily support for students struggling with behaviour, attendance, wellbeing, or engagement Delivering 1:1 interventions, check-ins, and restorative conversations Supporting behaviour management strategies and monitoring behaviour logs Responding to behaviour incidents and supporting students in reintegration meetings Liaising with parents/carers regarding concerns, intervention plans, or support strategies Working closely with Heads of Year, safeguarding leads, SENCO, and teachers Running small-group sessions on resilience, behaviour, self-esteem, or conflict resolution Supporting attendance improvement plans and punctuality monitoring Maintaining detailed pastoral records and ensuring confidentiality Supporting whole-school behaviour and wellbeing initiatives This role requires warmth, patience, professionalism, and the ability to build strong relationships with students across all year groups. Requirements Experience working in a pastoral, behaviour, youth work, or school support role Strong understanding of safeguarding and behaviour management principles Excellent communication, resilience, and emotional intelligence Ability to de-escalate situations calmly and professionally Experience working with parents, external agencies, and multi-agency teams Strong organisational skills and accurate record-keeping abilities A genuine commitment to improving the lives and outcomes of young people Application To apply, please send your CV as soon as possible.
