Job description
A prestigious and high-achieving secondary school in Durham is seeking an experienced and creative Head of Art to lead its successful department from April 2026. This is an exciting opportunity to shape and develop a high-quality Art provision within a school that values both academic rigour and creative excellence. Art is a respected subject within the school, with strong engagement at KS3 and KS4 and good uptake at KS5. The department is well resourced and supported by leadership that recognises the importance of creative disciplines. The Role Leading and managing the Art department across KS3, KS4, and KS5 Driving high standards of teaching, learning, and assessment Developing a coherent and ambitious Art curriculum Overseeing coursework, moderation, and examination preparation Line managing and mentoring Art staff Organising exhibitions, displays, and enrichment opportunities Managing departmental resources and studio spaces Contributing to whole-school leadership and curriculum development The Ideal Candidate Will Have Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) A degree in Art, Fine Art, or a related discipline Proven experience teaching Art at secondary level, including KS5 Previous departmental leadership experience A strong track record of raising attainment and promoting creative excellence Excellent organisational and communication skills The ability to lead a department within a high-achieving environment This prestigious secondary school in Durham is recognised for its strong academic standards, positive pupil behaviour, and supportive leadership team.
