Job description
Data Officer – Good Secondary School – Reading Start Date: As soon as possible Contract: Full-time, Permanent Salary: Paid to scale School Information: This is an 11 to 18 well-established, Good Ofsted Rated Secondary School located in Reading. The school is widely recognised for its strong academic progress, supportive pastoral systems, and commitment to providing every student with high-quality educational opportunities. The school serves a vibrant, diverse community and has built a reputation for maintaining high expectations while nurturing a culture of kindness, inclusion, and resilience. Students demonstrate excellent behaviour, pride in their learning, and strong engagement in lessons. The school environment is calm, structured, and purposeful, reflecting the consistent routines and strong relationships between staff and students. Leadership at the school is forward-thinking, strategic, and deeply invested in improvement through evidence-based practice. Data analysis plays a crucial role in shaping that vision, supporting teaching, tracking progress, identifying gaps, and improving outcomes. The school campus includes modern ICT suites, digital signage systems, recently upgraded classrooms, and an administrative centre equipped with up-to-date data management technologies. This makes it an ideal setting for a skilled Data Officer seeking a role where their work supports whole-school impact. Data & Assessment Department: The Data Department is central to the school’s academic monitoring, assessment processes, strategic planning, and performance evaluation. It provides crucial information that informs teaching adjustments, intervention programmes, parental communication, and school improvement priorities. As the Data Officer, you will work closely with senior leaders, teachers, pastoral staff, exam officers, and administrative teams. Your responsibilities will include managing the school’s MIS systems (Arbor/SIMS/Bromcom), producing high-quality data analysis reports, coordinating assessment windows, maintaining accurate student data records, tracking attendance and performance trends, supporting examination analysis, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. You will also handle census submissions, timetable data, and data linked to safeguarding, behaviour, and interventions. Daily tasks may include: • Updating student information, attendance data, class lists, and assessment marks. • Producing detailed reports for Heads of Department, senior leaders, and governors. • Creating monitoring spreadsheets, dashboards, and performance breakdowns. • Supporting teachers with data entry and ensuring accuracy. • Running data checks before major reporting cycles. • Managing statutory data returns, including the School Census. • Supporting exam analysis following results days. • Ensuring GDPR compliance and secure data storage. • Troubleshooting system issues and liaising with MIS providers. • Providing training to staff on data systems and reporting tools. The Data Department operates in a fast-paced environment where deadlines are crucial. Accuracy, confidentiality, and efficiency are essential. You will play a vital role in supporting school leaders to identify trends, evaluate interventions, and ensure that every student’s learning journey is tracked effectively. Requirements: • Strong experience in data management, ideally within a school environment. • Excellent analytical skills and experience producing data reports. • High proficiency with MIS systems (SIMS, Arbor, Bromcom, or similar). • Strong Excel skills, including formulas, pivot tables, and data visualisation. • Excellent organisational ability and meticulous attention to detail. • Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines. • Strong interpersonal and communication skills. • Commitment to confidentiality, safeguarding, and GDPR compliance.
