The school serves a diverse local community and is known for its strong pastoral care, high academic expectations, and commitment to ensuring every child leaves Year 6 confident, capable, and ready for secondary education. The school has a supportive and stable leadership team who place a strong emphasis on staff wellbeing, professional development, and collaborative working. Teachers are encouraged to share best practice, innovate in their teaching, and maintain a healthy work–life balance. Pupils are polite, motivated, and supported by engaged families who value education and partnership with the school. Year 6 is a key focus within the school, with structured support in place for both pupils and staff. There is a clear and well-established approach to SATs preparation that prioritises confidence, resilience, and progress over pressure. The school promotes a calm, purposeful learning environment where pupils are challenged academically while also supported emotionally during this important transition year. About the Role As the Year 6 Class Teacher , you will take responsibility for leading a Year 6 class through their final year of primary education. You will deliver high-quality teaching across the curriculum, with a strong focus on English and mathematics, while also supporting pupils’ wider development, independence, and readiness for secondary school. You will work closely with experienced teaching assistants, senior leaders, and the wider KS2 team to plan engaging lessons, analyse progress data, and implement targeted interventions. The role requires a confident and organised teacher who can maintain high expectations, motivate pupils, and provide consistent support throughout the year. This role is suitable for both experienced Year 6 teachers and confident Key Stage 2 teachers who are ready to step into Year 6. Early Career Teachers with strong KS2 placements and a clear understanding of assessment and data may also be considered with appropriate support. Key Responsibilities As a Year 6 Teacher, your responsibilities will include: • Planning and delivering engaging, high-quality lessons in line with the National Curriculum • Preparing pupils effectively for end-of-Key-Stage assessments in a supportive and balanced way • Teaching reading, writing, grammar, and mathematics to a high standard • Using assessment data to track progress and inform planning • Identifying and supporting pupils who require additional academic or emotional support • Differentiating learning to meet the needs of all pupils, including SEND and EAL • Creating a calm, purposeful, and inclusive classroom environment • Promoting positive behaviour, resilience, and independence • Working closely with teaching assistants to deliver interventions • Communicating effectively with parents and carers regarding progress and wellbeing • Supporting pupils’ transition to secondary school • Contributing to staff meetings, moderation, and whole-school initiatives • Upholding safeguarding, health, and safety procedures at all times The Ideal Candidate The school is seeking a Year 6 Teacher who demonstrates: • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) • Experience teaching in Key Stage 2 (Year 6 desirable but not essential) • Strong subject knowledge in English and mathematics • Confidence using assessment data to inform teaching • High expectations for pupil achievement and behaviour • Excellent classroom management and organisational skills • A calm, resilient, and positive approach • Strong communication and teamwork skills Desirable but not essential: • Experience with SATs preparation • Experience working in a diverse or coastal community • Subject leadership experience or interest Training, Support & Development The school offers: • A clear induction and mentoring programme • Ongoing CPD tailored to individual career goals • SATs and assessment-focused training • Supportive senior leadership and collaborative colleagues • Opportunities for progression and leadership Safeguarding Commitment The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All appointments are subject to enhanced DBS checks, satisfactory references, and safeguarding training. Why Apply? • Supportive leadership and strong KS2 team • Structured, realistic approach to SATs • Well-behaved and motivated pupils • Long-term role with permanent potential • Opportunity to make a meaningful impact at a pivotal stage
