Job description
Location: Oxford, Oxfordshire Start Date: January 2026 Salary: Competitive, based on experience Contract: Full-time or part-time/permanent The Opportunity A prestigious co-educational independent school in Oxford is seeking an enthusiastic and committed English Teacher to join its thriving department as soon as possible. This is an excellent opportunity for a teacher who is passionate about literature, language, and inspiring young people to think critically and communicate with confidence. The English Department A cornerstone of the curriculum, fostering critical thinking, articulate communication, and a lifelong love of reading and writing. Hosts guest authors and speakers to give students unique insights into literature and language. Organises a wide range of educational visits, theatre trips, and international experiences to enrich classroom learning. Collaborative, innovative, and committed to student success at every level. Your Role Teach English across Key Stages 3 and 4, with potential A-Level teaching depending on experience. Deliver engaging, creative, and challenging lessons that stretch and support all learners. Inspire students to explore literature, language, and writing with curiosity and confidence. Contribute to school life through co-curricular activities, debating, creative writing clubs, or enrichment programmes. The Ideal Candidate Holds a degree in English or a related subject, with QTS (or working towards). Demonstrates excellent subject knowledge and a genuine passion for English. Is an inspiring classroom practitioner, skilled at engaging students of all abilities. Is keen to contribute to the broader cultural and academic life of the school.
