Job description
A highly regarded independent day school in the Wilmslow area is seeking an accomplished and reflective Teacher of English to join its thriving English department from January 2026. This school is known for combining strong academic outcomes with a warm, purposeful learning environment. English sits at the heart of the curriculum, supporting pupils not only in examination success but in confidence, clarity of thought and articulate self-expression. Classes are small, behaviour is exemplary, and relationships between staff and pupils are built on mutual respect. The Role You will teach English across Key Stages 3 to 5 , including GCSE and A-Level English Literature and Language. Teaching here allows for depth rather than pace, with time to explore texts fully and encourage discussion, debate and independent interpretation. The role will involve: Teaching well-motivated pupils in small classes Delivering Literature and Language courses at GCSE and A-Level Encouraging critical thinking, extended writing and confident discussion Contributing to curriculum development and text selection Supporting enrichment such as reading societies, theatre visits or academic lectures The Department The English department is highly collaborative and academically ambitious. Teachers share ideas freely, co-plan where helpful, and are encouraged to pursue their own intellectual interests within the curriculum. Examination results are consistently strong, and pupils regularly progress to Russell Group universities.
