Job description
We are looking for a patient, compassionate, and dedicated SEN 1:1 Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in Thurrock, starting as soon as possible. This role offers the opportunity to work closely with a pupil with specific additional needs, supporting them to access the curriculum and thrive socially, emotionally, and academically. The school values inclusion, teamwork, and personalised support for all pupils. Staff work collaboratively to ensure that each child’s learning and wellbeing are prioritised, with leadership providing guidance, CPD, and strong support for all team members. The Role As a SEN 1:1 Teaching Assistant, you will work directly with a pupil who requires personalised support to engage fully with classroom learning. You will assist with tasks, provide guidance, and encourage independence while supporting the pupil’s emotional and social development. You will liaise closely with class teachers, the SENCo, and other support staff to implement strategies outlined in the pupil’s Individual Education Plan (IEP) and to track progress effectively. Key Responsibilities Provide one-to-one support to a pupil with SEN Assist with learning activities and classroom tasks Support the implementation of IEP targets Encourage independence, resilience, and positive behaviour Observe and record pupil progress, providing feedback to teachers and SENCo Support social, emotional, and communication development Work collaboratively with teaching staff and other professionals Maintain a safe, structured, and nurturing learning environment Who We’re Looking For The ideal candidate will: Have experience supporting pupils with SEN, ideally in a one-to-one capacity Be patient, empathetic, and adaptable Demonstrate strong communication and teamwork skills Be proactive and reliable Show a commitment to inclusion, safeguarding, and pupil wellbeing What the School Offers A supportive and experienced SEN team Opportunities for professional development and training Clear guidance and leadership support A positive and inclusive school culture Engaged and motivated pupils A professional, welcoming, and structured working environment Location The school is based in Thurrock, with good transport links and a friendly local community.
