Job description
A highly regarded Independent School in Buckingham is seeking an experienced and dedicated SENCO to join their inclusive and forward-thinking team from January 2026. This is a full-time, permanent position, offering the opportunity to lead the school’s SEND provision within a community that values academic excellence, compassion, and individual growth. About the Role The appointed SENCO will hold responsibility for the strategic leadership and coordination of SEND provision across the school, ensuring that every student receives tailored support to reach their full potential. They will work collaboratively with staff, parents, and external professionals to design and implement effective strategies that promote inclusion and achievement. The role will involve leading on the identification and assessment of needs, overseeing EHCP processes , managing intervention programmes, and delivering staff training to strengthen inclusive classroom practice. The SENCO will also provide targeted support and guidance to teachers, ensuring that all students — including those with additional learning needs — can thrive academically and personally. This is a key leadership role within the school, ideal for a candidate who combines expertise in SEND with a proactive and compassionate approach to pupil development. About the School This Independent School in Buckingham has built a strong reputation for its academic success, holistic education, and nurturing pastoral care . The school is proud of its inclusive ethos and commitment to helping every pupil succeed, whether academically, socially, or emotionally. Small class sizes allow for personalised learning and genuine attention to individual progress. The school’s dedicated staff team work collaboratively to create a warm, supportive environment in which students feel valued and confident to express themselves. Facilities include specialist support rooms, sensory spaces, and learning hubs , providing students with a calm and well-equipped setting in which to learn and grow. Staff benefit from a leadership team that prioritises wellbeing, continuous professional development, and opportunities for progression within the independent sector. Experience and Qualifications QTS and the National Award for SEN Coordination (or willingness to complete it). Proven experience supporting students with a range of additional needs, ideally in an independent or specialist setting. Strong knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice (2015) and inclusive teaching strategies. Excellent communication and organisational skills, with the ability to lead and inspire colleagues. A commitment to nurturing students’ confidence, resilience, and sense of belonging. How to Apply Applications are invited from committed and compassionate SENCOs who are passionate about inclusive education and the success of every child. Interested candidates should submit a CV and covering letter outlining their experience, leadership achievements, and vision for SEND provision in an independent school environment. Early applications are encouraged, as interviews may be scheduled prior to the closing date.
