Job description
Location: Braintree, Essex Organisation: MDMS – School Support Services Contract Type: Part-Time | Term-Time Only Hours: 1–2 hours per day, Monday to Friday Help Children Enjoy Safe, Structured Lunchtimes in Braintree Schools Lunchtime in primary schools is more than just a break for eating—it is a vital part of a child’s day. Children use this time to eat, play, interact with peers, and recharge for afternoon lessons. While many pupils enjoy this time, some may feel anxious or require extra support, particularly younger or more vulnerable children. MDMS is recruiting Midday Meal Supervisors for primary schools across Braintree, Essex . This part-time, term-time role is ideal for individuals who enjoy working with children, want structured hours, and wish to make a positive impact on the school community. Even though the role is typically only 1–2 hours per day, your presence is crucial for maintaining a safe, structured, and supportive lunchtime environment for all pupils. The Importance of Lunchtime Supervision Midday Meal Supervisors provide more than supervision—they play a vital role in children’s social, emotional, and behavioural development. Lunchtime allows pupils to: Build friendships and develop social skills Gain confidence and independence Recharge for afternoon learning Practice good behaviour and respect for others Feel included, supported, and safe With your guidance, lunchtimes can be calm, structured, and enjoyable, giving children the opportunity to flourish both socially and academically. Key Responsibilities As a Midday Meal Supervisor in Braintree, your role includes: Supervising Pupils Monitor pupils in dining halls, playgrounds, and corridors Ensure children behave safely and appropriately Identify and support pupils who need extra help during lunchtimes Supporting Mealtimes Assist younger or vulnerable pupils during meals Encourage positive mealtime routines and table manners Promote independence while providing support when required Promoting Positive Behaviour Model politeness, kindness, and respect Reinforce school rules consistently Calmly manage minor disputes and conflicts Managing Playtime Supervise indoor and outdoor play Encourage inclusive games and teamwork Ensure playground equipment is used safely Providing Emotional Support Support pupils who feel anxious, shy, or upset Be a friendly, approachable, and trusted adult Health, Safety, and First Aid Be aware of dietary requirements, allergies, and medical needs Administer basic first aid if required (training provided) Report accidents, incidents, or safeguarding concerns promptly Team Collaboration Work closely with teachers, teaching assistants, and other lunchtime staff Follow school routines to ensure smooth transitions between lunch, play, and lessons Maintaining Routine and Structure Support consistent lunchtime routines Create a calm and structured environment where all pupils feel safe and supported Who Should Apply No formal qualifications are required.
