Job description
Location: Stockport Borough Organisation: MDMS – School Support & Lunchtime Services Contract Type: Part-Time | Term-Time Only Hours: 1–2 hours per day, Monday to Friday Be the Friendly Face That Makes Lunchtime Better At MDMS, we believe that every part of the school day matters — including lunchtime. We work alongside schools across Greater Manchester to provide dependable, caring staff who help children feel safe, supported, and confident. We are currently looking for Midday Meal Supervisors to join our team in Stockport , working in welcoming primary schools across the borough. This role is perfect for people who enjoy being around children, value routine, and want a job that fits neatly around school hours. While the hours may be short, the impact you make is significant. Why Lunchtime Matters For children, lunchtime isn’t just about eating. It’s when friendships grow, social skills develop, and energy gets released. It can also be the most challenging part of the day for some pupils. That’s where you come in. As a Midday Meal Supervisor, you’ll help turn lunchtime into a positive experience. Your calm guidance, encouragement, and watchful eye will help ensure children feel secure and included, whether they’re sitting down for a meal or running around the playground. What You’ll Be Doing Your role will be varied, active, and people-focused. Responsibilities include: Supervising pupils as they arrive for lunch and move through the school safely Supporting children in dining areas, including helping younger pupils where needed Encouraging good manners, kindness, and respectful behaviour Being aware of food allergies, dietary needs, and medical requirements Ensuring pupils eat in a safe, calm, and orderly environment Supervising playground and indoor play activities Encouraging positive and inclusive play Keeping a watchful eye on pupil behaviour and stepping in early to prevent issues Helping children resolve minor disagreements in a fair and supportive way Comforting and reassuring children who may feel upset or overwhelmed Providing basic first aid when required (training provided) Reporting any concerns related to behaviour, safety, or wellbeing Working closely with teaching staff and senior lunchtime supervisors You will be a visible, approachable adult that children feel comfortable going to for help. Who We’re Looking For You don’t need formal qualifications or previous school experience to apply. MDMS is looking for people with the right personal qualities and a genuine interest in working with children. You may be ideal for this role if you are: Friendly, patient, and approachable Confident communicating with children of different ages Calm and fair when managing behaviour Reliable, punctual, and responsible Able to remain active during lunchtime supervision A positive role model who sets clear boundaries This role is especially popular with parents, carers, retirees, and people looking for meaningful part-time work during school hours. Training and Support We want you to feel confident and supported from day one. When you join MDMS, you will receive: A full induction before starting Safeguarding and child protection training Guidance on behaviour management and lunchtime routines Ongoing support from MDMS coordinators Clear school policies and procedures to follow Many of our Midday Meal Supervisors enjoy developing their skills and moving into other school-based roles over time. Hours, Flexibility & Work-Life Balance Term-time only (no work during school holidays) Part-time hours, usually 1–2 hours per day Monday to Friday working pattern Opportunities across multiple Stockport schools Ideal for fitting around family life, study, or other work This role offers structure and consistency while still allowing flexibility in your day.
