Job description
Location: Tottenham, North London Job Title: EYFS Teaching Assistant Contract Type: Full-Time | Term-Time Only Start Date: ASAP or Next Academic Term Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience School Overview This vibrant and inclusive inner-city primary school in Tottenham is deeply committed to providing a high-quality Early Years Foundation Stage provision that supports children’s academic, social, and emotional development from the very start. The EYFS setting is lively, well-structured, and highly nurturing, with a strong balance of child-initiated play and focused adult-led learning. The school recognises the importance of early intervention and has a proactive approach to supporting pupils with additional needs. Teaching Assistants are seen as essential members of the EYFS team and play a key role in daily routines, learning activities, and pastoral support. Due to increased levels of SEN, EAL, and speech and language needs within Nursery and Reception, the school is now seeking a skilled and compassionate EYFS Teaching Assistant to join their Early Years team. Role Purpose As an EYFS Teaching Assistant, you will work with children aged 3–5, supporting their development across all areas of learning. You will work closely with the class teacher and EYFS Lead to deliver engaging learning activities and provide targeted support to individual pupils and small groups. A significant aspect of this role involves supporting children with SEN , including autism, speech and language delay, developmental delay, and social or emotional difficulties. You will help children regulate emotions, build communication skills, and access learning in a calm and inclusive environment. Key Responsibilities Support EYFS learning through structured activities and play-based learning Provide one-to-one and small group support for pupils with additional needs Support children with SEN, including ASD, ADHD, and communication needs Assist with phonics, early reading, mark-making, and early maths activities Promote positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and independence Support classroom routines including transitions, carpet time, and snack time Assist with outdoor learning and physical development sessions Observe, assess, and record children’s progress and learning outcomes Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCO, speech therapists, and external agencies Support children with personal care needs where required Maintain high standards of safeguarding, health, and safety at all times The Ideal Candidate The school is seeking a calm, patient, and resilient EYFS Teaching Assistant with a genuine passion for inclusion and early childhood development. You should demonstrate: Experience working in EYFS or early years settings Strong understanding of child development and the EYFS framework Experience or strong interest in supporting SEN and high-needs pupils A nurturing, consistent, and empathetic approach Strong communication and teamwork skills Confidence supporting children with challenging behaviour Training and Career Progression The school offers a strong CPD programme, including: SEN and autism awareness training EYFS curriculum and assessment training Behaviour support and emotional wellbeing strategies Safeguarding and child protection Clear progression routes are available into SEN TA, HLTA, or teacher training roles.
