The Caretaker opportunity you’ve been waiting for… A highly regarded school in Portsmouth is seeking a reliable, practical, and enthusiastic Caretaker to join its dedicated and supportive site team. Job Overview Our client is looking to appoint a Caretaker to start in January 2026. This welcoming and well-organised school is known for its high standards, strong leadership, and commitment to providing a safe and positive learning environment. The successful Caretaker will play a key role in the day-to-day maintenance, security, and presentation of the school site, ensuring it remains a safe, clean, and well-maintained environment for students, staff, and visitors. The site and facilities team is highly valued and works closely with senior leaders to support the smooth running of the school. The Role The Caretaker will be responsible for a range of duties including: Opening and closing the school site, including key holding and security checks Carrying out routine maintenance, repairs, and health & safety checks Maintaining school buildings and grounds to a high standard Setting up rooms for lessons, exams, and school events Liaising with contractors and reporting maintenance issues Supporting health & safety and safeguarding procedures Caretaker – Experience and Requirements Previous experience in caretaking, site maintenance, or a similar role (school experience desirable) Practical skills with the ability to carry out basic repairs and maintenance tasks Good knowledge of health & safety practices Strong communication and organisational skills Legal right to work in the UK A proactive, reliable, and team-oriented approach Location: Portsmouth, Hampshire Start Date: January 2026 Salary: Competitive and dependent on experience Application If you are a dependable and motivated Caretaker looking for a rewarding role within a supportive school environment, please submit your CV as soon as possible.
