Exams Officer – Outstanding Secondary School – Bristol Start Date: As soon as possible Contract: Full-time, Permanent Salary: Paid to scale School Information This Outstanding 11–18 secondary school in North Bristol is recognised for its exceptional academic outcomes, disciplined environment, and strong pastoral culture. The school is situated within a modern campus that includes specialist science labs, digital media suites, newly refurbished exam halls, and excellent accessibility via local transport routes. With a roll of over 1,600 students, the school runs a large and complex examinations operation that is known for being one of the most efficient and well-managed in the region. Leadership places strong emphasis on effective systems, staff professionalism, and ensuring all operational departments—particularly examinations—are equipped with the training and tools needed to excel. The Exams Department is central to this mission, ensuring every internal and external exam runs smoothly and to regulatory standards. Role Information The school is seeking a highly organised, meticulous Exams Officer to oversee the management, administration, and delivery of all internal and external examinations across the academic year. This role requires precision, compliance, calm under pressure, and excellent operational planning. Key responsibilities include: Coordinating all aspects of external exams (GCSE, A Level, BTEC, vocational) Managing entries, registrations, exam timetables, and seating plans Liaising with exam boards, subject leaders, and senior leadership teams Ensuring full compliance with JCQ regulations and all awarding body policies Running internal mock exams, baseline assessments, and resit cycles Recruiting, training, and managing a team of invigilators Organising secure storage, stationery, papers, and scripts Collating and distributing results, post-results services, and candidate information Maintaining accurate student records and data on the school information system Preparing reports, statistics, and analysis for school leaders This is a pivotal role requiring strong attention to detail, strategic thinking, and the ability to maintain calm and accuracy during high-pressure exam seasons. Requirements Prior experience as an Exams Officer (or strong transferable admin experience) Excellent organisational and time-management skills High level of accuracy and attention to detail Good knowledge of JCQ processes (training provided if needed) Strong communication skills and professionalism when dealing with staff and students Ability to use MIS systems confidently (SIMS/Arbor desirable) Ability to manage deadlines and prioritise complex tasks Calm, resilient, and able to work under pressure during peak exam periods Commitment to safeguarding and compliance Application To apply, please send your CV as soon as possible.
