Job description
A welcoming primary school in Sheffield is recruiting an experienced SENCO to lead the school’s SEND strategy from January 2026. The appointed SENCO will take ownership of day-to-day casework while also driving whole-school improvement in inclusion. This SENCO post in Sheffield combines strategic planning, staff development and hands-on support for pupils and families. The role will commence January 2026, with a structured handover period planned ahead of the spring term. • SENCO required to lead SEND and inclusion across the school • SENCO required to work within a supportive primary school in Sheffield • SENCO to develop targeted interventions, strengthen provision mapping and support families The SENCO will coordinate assessment and referral pathways, work closely with external professionals and ensure that targeted interventions are monitored for impact. As SENCO you will line-manage support staff, refine provision maps and ensure statutory processes are fulfilled. The Sheffield community values strong partnership working, and the SENCO will be expected to build and sustain relationships with parents, local services and multi-disciplinary teams across Sheffield. Responsibilities Lead the development and implementation of the school’s SEND strategy and graduated response. Coordinate assessments, referrals and statutory reviews ensuring timely, compliant practice. Design, oversee and evaluate intervention programmes that accelerate pupil progress. Build staff capacity through focused CPD and coaching, improving inclusive classroom approaches. Maintain clear and sensitive communication with families and multi-agency partners. Person specification Qualified teacher status with proven SEND coordination experience and leadership capability. Thorough knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice, statutory processes and effective interventions. Skilled at analysing data and using outcomes to shape provision and resource allocation. Strong communicator, able to work compassionately with families and professionally with external agencies. Available to begin January 2026 and to be based in Sheffield.
