Job description
An esteemed Independent School in Barnet is hiring a permanent, full-time Teacher of History for a January 2026 start. This is an excellent opportunity to join a highly academic Humanities department. About the School Located in a leafy area of Barnet, this independent school combines traditional values with forward-thinking pedagogy. The History department is known for its intellectual rigour, inspiring students to delve into complex historical narratives and develop strong analytical skills. The school places a high value on academic scholarship, student voice, and a broad co-curricular programme that extends learning beyond the classroom. Staff wellbeing is supported through sensible workloads and a collegiate environment. Responsibilities You will deliver engaging and rigorous instruction across Key Stages 3, 4 (GCSE/iGCSE), and 5 (A-Level). Your role involves driving high attainment and promoting advanced source analysis, essay construction, and historical debate. You must actively contribute to the school's historical research culture and academic societies. You will prepare your students for competitive university applications in History and related fields. Requirements You should hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) (desirable but not essential). You must have the right to work in the UK. You must hold a Degree or have extensive experience teaching History, with a strong record of academic success.
