Job description

Location: West Lindsey, Lincolnshire Organisation: MDMS – School Support Services Contract Type: Part-Time | Term-Time Only Hours: 1–2 hours per day, Monday to Friday Do You Want a Role That Makes a Difference Every Day? Imagine walking into a bustling primary school at lunchtime. Children are laughing, playing, and enjoying their meals. Some are confident and chatty, while others may feel nervous, overwhelmed, or shy. It’s your calm, friendly presence that ensures every child is safe, happy, and included. MDMS is recruiting Midday Meal Supervisors for primary schools across West Lindsey . This role is perfect for anyone who enjoys working with children, values part-time term-time work, and wants to make a positive impact in their community. While the role may only be a couple of hours per day, the influence you have on children’s wellbeing, behaviour, and enjoyment of school is significant. You do not need formal qualifications or prior school experience — what matters most is your attitude, reliability, and enthusiasm for helping children thrive. What Does the Role Involve? The role of a Midday Meal Supervisor is hands-on, varied, and rewarding. You will work closely with school staff to ensure that lunchtimes are smooth, structured, and enjoyable. Key responsibilities include: Supervision of Pupils – Ensuring safety in dining areas, corridors, classrooms, and playgrounds. You will monitor pupils during meals, guiding behaviour, and supporting safe movement around the school. Supporting Mealtimes – Helping children, especially younger or vulnerable pupils, during lunchtime. This could include helping with trays, encouraging table manners, or assisting children who may feel overwhelmed by the busy environment. Encouraging Positive Behaviour – Promoting good manners, polite behaviour, and respect for peers and staff. You will model kindness and fairness, helping children navigate social interactions. Managing Outdoor and Indoor Play – Supervising outdoor play during good weather and indoor activities during wet or cold conditions. Encouraging games, inclusive participation, and safe use of equipment is essential. Resolving Minor Conflicts – Children will occasionally disagree or have minor disputes. Your role is to de-escalate these situations calmly, fairly, and consistently. Providing Emotional Support – Some children may feel anxious, upset, or lonely. Offering reassurance, empathy, and a listening ear helps them feel secure and included. Health and Safety Awareness – Ensuring awareness of pupils’ allergies, dietary needs, and medical conditions. Reporting any incidents, accidents, or safeguarding concerns promptly to school staff. Basic First Aid – Administering basic first aid when necessary (training is provided) to respond to minor injuries quickly and appropriately. Collaboration – Working as part of a team with teachers, teaching assistants, and other lunchtime staff to maintain a smooth-running lunchtime routine. Routine and Structure – Helping maintain school routines and transitions between lunch, play, and afternoon lessons. Your consistent approach ensures pupils know what is expected and feel secure.
