Job description
We are seeking a caring, enthusiastic, and proactive EYFS Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and inclusive primary school in St Albans, starting as soon as possible. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting young children during their early learning journey and enjoys working as part of a dedicated Early Years team. The school has a strong community ethos and places a high priority on early development, wellbeing, and positive learning behaviours. Staff work collaboratively to create a safe, stimulating, and nurturing environment where children feel confident, secure, and eager to learn. Senior leadership is supportive and provides training, guidance, and professional development opportunities. As an EYFS Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with the class teacher and Early Years staff to support children’s learning, development, and wellbeing. You will assist with both structured activities and play-based learning, helping children develop key skills such as communication, social interaction, and independence. Key Responsibilities Support children’s learning and development across the EYFS curriculum Assist with the delivery of engaging, play-based and structured activities Provide 1:1 and small group support where required Support children’s social, emotional, and behavioural development Help create a safe, nurturing, and stimulating learning environment Assist with observations, assessments, and learning journals Promote positive behaviour, routines, and independence Work collaboratively with teachers and Early Years staff Support children during transitions, playtimes, and daily routines Communicate effectively with parents and carers when required Ensure safeguarding and child protection procedures are followed at all times The Ideal Candidate The successful candidate will: Have experience working with young children in an EYFS setting Be nurturing, patient, and enthusiastic Have strong communication and teamwork skills Be proactive, reliable, and adaptable Show a genuine passion for early years education Be confident supporting children with a range of needs Be committed to safeguarding and pupil wellbeing The school is located in St Albans, with excellent transport links and a supportive local community.
