Job description
The Headteacher of this welcoming and well-led secondary school is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic Design Technology Early Career Teacher (ECT) to join a supportive and well-established DT department. This is an excellent opportunity for an ECT looking to begin their teaching career in a school that values practical learning, strong routines, and high-quality professional development. The Design Technology department is collaborative and well resourced, offering students a broad and engaging curriculum across KS3 and KS4. The school supports a range of DT specialisms, including Product Design, Resistant Materials, Graphics, and Food Technology, and is open to applicants from all DT backgrounds. What the school is looking for: Southend-on-Sea January Start Design Technology Teacher – ECT DT across KS3 and KS4 A passionate and motivated trainee or newly qualified teacher A commitment to developing strong classroom practice The ability to deliver engaging, practical lessons safely and effectively A willingness to learn, reflect, and develop professionally Good organisation, communication, and workshop management skills The successful DT ECT will benefit from a structured ECT induction programme, mentoring from experienced DT staff, reduced timetable where appropriate, and access to high-quality CPD. The school places a strong emphasis on staff wellbeing and ensures that early career teachers feel supported and confident as they develop. School Information This is an 11–16 secondary school located in Southend-on-Sea, known for its supportive leadership team, calm learning environment, and strong focus on practical subjects. The school values Design Technology as a key subject and invests in maintaining safe, well-equipped workshops.
