Job description
A community-rooted 11–18 secondary school in Rochdale is seeking a reflective and enthusiastic RE ECT to join its Humanities faculty from January 2026. This is an ideal role for a new teacher who values thoughtful teaching, respectful classroom dialogue and strong mentoring — within a school that understands the realities of beginning your career. The school serves a diverse community and places a high value on inclusion, cultural understanding and strong relationships. RE is treated as an academically meaningful subject that develops critical thinking, literacy, and respectful discussion. The Department and Curriculum RE sits within a strong Humanities faculty and benefits from shared approaches to literacy, assessment and curriculum design. The curriculum is carefully planned to ensure: Clear progression in knowledge and concepts across KS3 Strong links between religion, ethics and philosophy Explicit teaching of vocabulary and extended writing Structured discussion that remains calm and purposeful You’ll have access to shared planning and resources, meaning you can focus your energy on delivery, subject confidence and building classroom routines. The Role You will teach RE across KS3 and KS4, with support to build confidence in: Teaching sensitive topics with clarity and professionalism Building respectful classroom discussion routines Supporting pupils with structured writing and argumentation Differentiating effectively without overcomplicating planning RE teaching here is purposeful: lessons are designed to challenge pupils intellectually while ensuring they feel safe and respected. ECT Support That Works As an ECT, you will receive: Reduced timetable in line with the ECF Weekly mentoring with a Humanities specialist Coaching and observation opportunities Support with behaviour routines and questioning strategies Practical CPD that connects directly to what happens in classrooms The school understands that early career teachers need time and structured feedback, not constant “initiatives.” The Wider School The school has a calm and consistent culture, underpinned by strong pastoral systems.
