You will collaborate closely with internal teams—Production Managers, Technical Officers, Controllers, Area Managers, Risk Managers, Project Engineers—and external partners including Strategic Solution and Design Development teams, ensuring best‑in‑class service and operational excellence.

This role offers a dynamic on‑the‑ground County Engineering deployment, supporting operational teams across United Utilities’ five‑county service area. • Lead the development and continuous improvement of wastewater process standards, specifications, and best practices to optimise treatment performance and sustainability.
  • Influence technical solutions across a geographical operational area.
  • Oversee rigorous quality assurance processes to verify the accuracy and reliability of team deliverables in alignment with water sector benchmarks.
  • Proactively identify and escalat risks impacting quality, budget, and project timelines to safeguard critical water services.
  • Foster ongoing professional development and mentor junior engineers, building a resilient and skilled water process engineering team.
  • Represent United Utilities externally to enhance our reputation as a leader in water sector innovation and operational excellence.

  • Ability to communicate, to both technical and non‑technical audiences, concepts and ideas regarding the application of particular designs.
  • Knowledge of wastewater operational environments, operator skill levels and operating cost implications of proposed engineering solutions.
  • Awareness of process and construction risk analysis techniques.
  • Personal commitment to safety and encouraging commitment in others.
  • Capability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to write clear, concise, accurate reports and specifications with measurable outputs, and promote these standards and designs to others.
  • Will be based on site within a designated operational area and will be expected to travel daily across a number of sites.
  • Skilled trouble shooter and innovative problem‑solver, with a proactive approach to meeting project milestones and enhancing operational reliability.
  • Passionate about driving sustainable water management solutions and supporting United Utilities’ mission to deliver safe, clean water to millions.
