Mō te tūnga | About the role

We’re looking for strong, resilient support workers with the heart and strength to step up and support individuals with complex behavioural needs. As a support worker you’ll walk alongside someone, helping them stay safe, manage emotions, and live a good life. This is hands‑on, meaningful mahi, where your strength, patience, and presence truly matter.

It is about showing up, keeping calm when things are tough, and being someone others can rely on – you won’t be on your own; you’ll be fully trained and supported by a solid team that has your back.

Ngā mahi | What you’ll be doing

  • Build independence – support people to learn everyday skills such as cooking, budgeting, and using public transport.
  • Support daily routines – help with personal care and medication.
  • Back goals and passions – encourage people to pursue interests, culture, and hobbies.
  • Support complex behaviours – provide calm, consistent support, always with dignity, safety, and respect.
  • Strengthen whānau and community connections – support people to stay connected to their people, culture, whakapapa, and community.
  • Promote health and wellbeing – support positive choices for physical, mental, and emotional health.

‘Ngā pūmanawatanga ōu | What you bring

You’ll Bring

  • Ability to stay calm, steady, and respectful in challenging situations.
  • Confidence working with challenging behaviours and de‑escalating situations.
  • Ability to build strong, trusting relationships.
  • Physical fitness to provide hands‑on support and participate in activities.
  • A non‑judgmental, open‑minded approach to people from all walks of life.
  • Comfortable using computers and tablets as part of daily work.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • A full New Zealand driver’s licence.

Nōu te rourou | What's in it for you

  • $23.84–$29.10 per hour, with the ability to earn more as you gain qualifications.
  • IDEA Services will support you towards completion of the Level 2, 3 and 4 Certificates in Health and Wellbeing qualifications.
  • Generous long‑service leave entitlements plus insurance benefits after 2 years’ service.
  • 'Refer a friend' bonus programme.
  • FREE Employee Assistance programme – service anytime you need health and wellbeing support.
