Job description

We are seeking a Maintenance Engineer to help us revolutionise the physical and digital music industry. The company has invented a new technology to produce on-demand vinyl records and built a web platform for music creators to create and sell their product worldwide via our store at zero cost. We are working with the leading record labels, streaming services, digital service providers, distributors, and iconic global artists who are keen to partner with us to build a global solution for physical media. It is our mission that any music creator, big and small, will have frictionless access to offer vinyl and CDs to their fans via our innovative solution and planned production/fulfilment centres in Europe, the USA and Asia.

The vinyl market has been growing on average by more than 20% year on year over the last 16 years, more than doubling since 2020. In Japan, it grew 40% last year, and even CDs are growing for the first time in two decades. 30 million creators are releasing their music online today, while they are growing 30% a year and represent the fastest-growing segment in music. Most of them would like to have their music on vinyl or CD for their friends & family, and especially their fans. elasticStage will provide them easy and affordable access via its unique and scalable on-demand tech.

This is an exciting opportunity for a talented Maintenance Engineer to join our team. The Engineer is a crucial member of our Operations team, responsible for ensuring the seamless operation of our manufacturing process. This role will oversee and monitor production systems, diagnose and troubleshoot technical issues, manage maintenance activities, and work closely with hardware and software teams to design and implement critical fixes while driving continuous in the production process.

This is a night shift role. As part of this position, you will work on a rotating night shift pattern, providing exposure to different aspects of our production processes and supporting the demands of customer orders, while still promoting a healthy work–life balance. Our shift schedule includes:

  • 2 nights on - 2 nights off
  • 3 nights on - 2 nights off
  • 2 nights on - 3 nights off

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance on stations, including completing check sheets, cleaning, visual inspections, and recording weights in the CMMS.
  • Identify swarf-related failures and carry out corrective actions.
  • Calibrate stations as required (e.g. after audio maintenance, at end of tip life, for broken tips, and through microscope inspection).
  • Monitor station performance and record observations such as slipping or warped discs, taking intervention where necessary.
  • Recover from transport failures and report associated issues.
  • Manage dual- role stations, including magazine load/unload and updating Gecko board queues.
  • Log the installation and removal of new and old tips.
  • Report observed disc failures to the Production Manager (e.g. warped discs, prepped/not prepped, debris, hole damage, incorrect hole size).
  • Monitor conditioning parameters, including temperature, reverse osmosis, and dew point.
  • Carry out maintenance checks and corrective actions on heat tunnel, shrink wrap, gluing, folding machines, CNC cutting, and edge-finishing machines as required.
  • Commission, operate, and maintain vinyl record manufacturing machinery.
  • Monitor production performance, quality, and downtime.
  • Troubleshoot faults and carry out maintenance and repairs.
  • Collect and analyse process and quality data.
  • Work with R&D, software, and hardware teams to implement improvements and updates.
  • Plan machine usage and maintenance to meet production demand.
  • Ensure quality standards, investigate defects, and apply corrective actions.
  • Maintain technical, operational, and H&S documentation, and manage critical spares.

Technical

  • Relevant engineering qualification (Indentured Apprenticeship, NVQ Level 3,) in Electrical, Mechanical, or Multi-Skilled Engineering.
  • Experience in assembling complex mechanical assemblies.
  • Experience in optimising processes and procedures to improve output.
  • Experience operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting machinery.
  • Strong analytical skills to diagnose and resolve technical issues quickly.
  • Understanding of lean manufacturing practices and implementing them ( Knowledge of the 5s.
  • Ability to contribute to designing and implementing improvements.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance logs, records of repairs, and spare parts inventory management via a Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Collaborate with production/engineering teams to prioritise maintenance tasks and minimise disruption to operations.
  • Excellent IT skills ( Slack and Google Workspace.)

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Excellent teamwork skills to work effectively with R&D, software, and production teams.
  • Ability to clearly and concisely communicate faults, causes and solutions.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively.
  • Clear written communication for reports and SOP writing.
  • Experience in mentoring/coaching assembly operators and giving training.
  • Managing support from external contractors and suppliers.

Work Location

  • This role is onsite, based in our vibrant Elstree office (WD6) five days a week.
