Job description

Senior People Partner - Operations (Fixed Term Contract)

Hello, we're Starling. We built a new kind of bank because we knew technology had the power to help people save, spend and manage their money in a new and transformative way. We're a fully licensed UK bank with the culture and spirit of a fast-moving, disruptive tech company. We're a bank, but better: fairer, easier to use and designed to demystify money for everyone. We employ more than 3,500 people across our London, Southampton, Cardiff and Manchester offices.

Everyone at Starling gets the chance to own interesting things from day one, and we're told one of the best things about working here is the ability to achieve a lot in a short space of time.

Our mission is to change banking for good. We can't do that without our dedicated and passionate employees. Our People team deals with all aspects of our employee journey - talent acquisition, employee onboarding, talent management, total rewards and employee experience and culture.

We are now looking for a Senior People Partner to join us in our Cardiff office on a Fixed Term Contract. In this role you'll work closely with our Operations teams and will take a lead in delivering our People plan at Starling.

  • Culture and Engagement - partner with leaders to build high performing, inclusive teams, championing wellbeing, DEI and the employee experience through listening to employee feedback, identifying areas for improvement and delivering change to support and promote our culture
  • Stakeholder Management & Business Partnership - build trusted relationships with leaders and teams, advising, challenging and influencing. Using commercial awareness to translate business needs to people strategies
  • Coaching and Development - work with senior leaders and managers to improve/enhance their leadership effectiveness by providing day to day advice and feedback. Support talent reviews and succession planning. Drive performance management cycles
  • Reward - inform decision making for reward processes and provide market analysis and insight
  • Talent Management - identify and actively manage our talent ensuring we retain and develop our people supporting team effectiveness and leadership capability
  • Recruitment, planning and onboarding - working with our in-house recruitment resources to grow talented, diverse teams
  • Organisational Design & Change - support workforce planning, skilled at analysing people data to inform decision making. Experience in people change management and organisational design.
  • Talent Acquisition and Onboarding - Partnering with our Talent Acquisition Team to ensure we continue to hire strong candidates and meet the resource needs of our growing business
  • HR Operations and MI - provide input to the People Operations team to ensure accurate data and take responsibility for reporting to support our people decision-making

Requirements

  • Significant experience in an HR or a People function, which has given you a solid grounding as a generalist;
  • Experience working in financial services;
  • A strength/preference in People Change Management, Reward, Engagement or Talent Management would be a useful addition to the team;
  • An understanding of Risk and Regulatory requirements, and a willingness to develop your knowledge further;
  • Strong execution skills and acute attention to detail;
  • An ability to operate within a fast paced, growing business environment; to continuously improve and adapt to change business requirements;
  • Numerate, with an evidence-based approach to decision making;
  • Able to deliver effective results and meet deadlines in a flexible, organic, fast-paced environment

Applications for this role will close on Tuesday 9th December.

Benefits

  • 25 days holiday (plus take your public holiday allowance whenever works best for you)
  • An extra day's holiday for your birthday
  • Annual leave is increased with length of service, and you can choose to buy or sell up to five extra days off
  • 16 hours paid volunteering time a year
  • Salary sacrifice, company enhanced pension scheme
  • Life insurance at 4x your salary
  • Private Medical Insurance with VitalityHealth including mental health support and cancer care. Partner benefits include discounts with Waitrose, Mr&Mrs Smith and Peloton
  • Generous family-friendly policies
  • Perkbox membership giving access to retail discounts, a wellness platform for physical and mental health, and weekly free and boosted perks
  • Access to initiatives like Cycle to Work and Salary Sacrificed Gym partnerships

About Us

You may be put off applying for a role because you don't tick every box. Forget that! While we can't accommodate every flexible working request, we're always open to discussion. So, if you're excited about working with us, but aren't sure if you're 100% there yet, get in touch anyway.

We're on a mission to radically reshape banking - and that starts with our brilliant team. Whatever came before, we're proud of bringing together people of all backgrounds and experiences who love working together to solve problems.

Starling Bank is an equal opportunity employer, and we're proud of our ongoing efforts to foster diversity & inclusion in the workplace.
