Exceptions above the standard range are managed through governance controls to protect internal equity.

Your impact

An exciting opportunity has opened for a Senior Power Engineer to join our Power Supply Unit (PSU) Core Delivery Team in Edinburgh — the group that provides the expertise, direction and technical authority behind every power‑related system on site.

At Leonardo, we’re proud to design and build world‑class defence technology in the heart of Edinburgh. From cutting‑edge Radars for the Eurofighter Typhoon to advanced Maritime and Airborne surveillance systems, our work shapes the future of airborne capability. As our projects grow, so does our need for talented, motivated engineers to help drive the next generation of innovation.

As an experienced PSU design engineer, you’ll help define the power systems of tomorrow. You’ll explore new PSU topologies and emerging technologies in energy storage and conservation, laying the foundations for solutions we’ll rely on in the years ahead. You’ll also support a variety of power‑focused challenges across ongoing programmes, stepping into live issues with a broad understanding of modern power techniques and a readiness to solve complex problems.

This is your chance to influence the future of power engineering at Leonardo — and help shape some of the most advanced defence systems in the world.

You will:

  • Report directly to a CDT Lead Engineer, participating in a wide scope of PSU and system topologies, power system analysis, power system design.

  • Provide technical support to the Engineering, Project and PSU CDT Management Teams

  • Support the Power CDT for full range of power system tests including prototyping, design verification and production support.

  • Create and review documentation such as circuit & system simulations and associated white papers, test reports, test plans

  • Work closely with other CDTs and the Design for EMC Team to create earth and grounding diagrams, EMC plans and design stage review material.

  • Provide design and domain knowledge support to projects, CDTs, suppliers, workshare partners and customers.

  • Review of System and Sub-System Requirements

  • Provide support to other members of the CDT, including schematic capture, component selection and derating and simulation of power supply circuitry.

  • PSU topology analysis

  • PSU system modelling

  • Review of current and emerging energy storage materials and energy conservation techniques.

What you’ll bring

In order to be considered for this role you will have previous experience in the design, manufacture, test, integration of PSUs and or power systems. Ideally you will possess a minimum of HND in Engineering or Systems or related technical discipline. You will ideally have knowledge in the following areas;

  • ACDC and or DCDC switched mode power supply design

  • Control and interface circuitry

  • Experience with Mentor Graphics and ideally you will be familiar with a recognised schematic and simulation toolsets like Simetrix, LT Spice and Matlab

  • Fault diagnosis to component level

  • Electrical safety

  • Measurement and instrumentation systems
