Job description

Victoria Hospital

Do you want to be at the forefront of transforming clinical pharmacy?

We are creating innovative pathways to develop clinical leaders and we are now looking for highly motivated and enthusiastic pharmacists to join our expanding team. Due to a number of internal promotions, and building on the success of our new integrated training scheme for foundation pharmacists, we are delighted to offer opportunities working in cross-sector posts, combining a role in GP practices with hospital wards/departments with future opportunities to review sector specific roles. These posts will be patient-centred and will give you the opportunity to develop your clinical and technical skills in practice.

You will receive support from an educational supervisor, and the wider pharmacy team, as well as peer support from other Foundation pharmacists. Successful applicants will be supported to complete the RPS Post Registration Foundation Training programme which equips pharmacists with a broad range of core skills via completion of learning outcomes, to become clinical practitioners. This course is inclusive of the independent prescribing qualification.

93% of our staff on training programmes received their study time and 100% of staff had regular meetings with their educational supervisor, within the agreed frequency.

The NHS Fife Pharmacy and Medicines Directorate provides an integrated service to a population of approximately 380,000 people, with a team of around 300 Pharmacy staff, including Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians, Support Workers, Nurses, and Administrators. We pride ourselves on being a vibrant, welcoming and friendly team, that is made up of hardworking, talented and dedicated individuals who work towards a common goal of putting our patients at the heart of everything that we do. We are committed to our staffs experience and development and ensuring both our staff and patients experience the same compassion and empathy.

The team work across Acute and Community hospital sites, General Practices, Mental Health services, and a range of specialist teams. Partnership working is at the core of our values, and we work closely with other members of the multi-disciplinary team, including our Community Pharmacy colleagues, to deliver the highest quality care for everyone in Fife. There are opportunities to become involved in a range of projects across the integrated Pharmacy service as well as shaping the future vision for the service.

Fife has something to offer everyone and getting to and around Fife is simple, with excellent public transport links from around the UK. This fabulous region is not far from Scotlands major cities, with Edinburgh just to the south, Dundee and Perth to the north, and Glasgow to the south west.

Hospital or primary care experience is not essential as training will be fully supported.

The posts are also open to pharmacists currently undertaking their post graduate foundation training year who would be in a position to commence post later this year.

Please refer to the relevant job description and person specification for details on the role.

For further information please contact: Alison Cuthill, , Senior Pharmacist for Education and Training, Calum Murray, Lead Clinical Pharmacist, Primary Care or Andrew Steele, Lead Clinical Pharmacist, Surgery,

As from 1/4/26, the Agenda for Change full-time working week will be reducing from 37 to 36 hours per week. Part time hours will be reduced pro-rata. However, there will be a corresponding increase in the hourly rate so that pay will not be affected.

A requirement of this post is to become a member of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme Prior to appointment.

To work in the United Kingdom, there is a legal requirement for an individual to demonstrate that they have the relevant permission to work in the country. This permission is, without exception, granted by the UK Visa and Immigrations Service.

As part of the pre-employment checks for a preferred candidate, NHS Scotland Boards will check your entitlement to work in the UK. It can be evidenced through a number of routes including specific types of visa as well as EU settled and pre-settled status. To find out more about these routes of permission, please refer to the websitehere.

For specific types of post, if you do not have the necessary eligibility to work in the UK, it might be possible (though not guaranteed) to secure sponsorship via a UK Skilled Worker/Health & Care Worker Visa. However, this is only possible if the employer is a licenced Sponsor, and if the post does not fall below the current minimum salary threshold or going rate. Further information on these criteria can be foundhere.

It is ESSENTIAL that you have checked that you either already have an appropriate right to work in the UK or that the post would be eligible to be sponsoredBEFORE submitting your application form.

We offer flexible working and family-friendly policies and fully support disabled candidates, and candidates with long-term conditions or who are neurodivergent by making reasonable adjustments to our recruitment policy and practices.

NHS Scotland is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. To this end, NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.
