We're looking for an Engineering Manager – AI & Data to lead the engineering team responsible for building the trusted data foundations that power those AI capabilities.

This is a hands-on engineering leadership role. You'll lead and develop a small team whilst remaining close to the technology, helping shape architecture, guide technical decisions and deliver scalable engineering solutions that support the next generation of ECA's products.

Working alongside Product, Data and Architecture teams, you'll transform complex data into intelligent products that solve real customer problems.

What You'll Own

• Lead, coach and develop a small team of Data & AI Engineers.
• Set technical direction, engineering standards and best practice.
• Evolve our AWS, Snowflake, S3 and PostgreSQL platform into a modern, AI-ready data ecosystem.
• Build scalable data acquisition and ingestion pipelines across multiple internal and external data sources.
• Develop AI-powered services and products using modern LLM and RAG approaches where they create genuine business value.
• Ensure data is trusted, well-governed and ready to power intelligent products.
• Work closely with Product, Data and Analytics teams to deliver valuable engineering solutions.
• Drive continuous improvement across engineering practices, quality and delivery.
• Remain hands-on with architecture, design and technical decision-making where your expertise adds the greatest value.

Requirements

What You'll Bring

You'll probably come from a background in software engineering, platform engineering or data engineering and have already moved into a technical leadership or engineering management role.

You enjoy developing people just as much as solving technical challenges.

You'll know how to balance delivery, coaching and technical decision-making, helping your team perform whilst remaining close enough to the technology to influence architecture and engineering direction.

You'll have experience with:

• AWS and cloud-native technologies
• Snowflake or similar cloud data platforms
• PostgreSQL and modern data architectures
• Data orchestration tools such as Airflow, Prefect or similar
• Amazon S3
• Event-driven architectures and distributed systems
• Building scalable engineering solutions using APIs and multiple data sources

You'll understand that great AI starts with great data and appreciate the importance of governance, quality, scalability and operational resilience.

Most importantly, you'll enjoy building great engineering teams, improving systems and helping others grow.

Who We're Looking For

We're not looking for someone with ten years of AI experience.

Very few people have that.

We're looking for an experienced engineering leader with strong technical foundations who is genuinely excited about how AI can enhance products built on trusted, high-quality data.

You'll be someone who enjoys learning, experimenting and helping teams adopt modern engineering practices responsibly within an established technology business.

Curiosity, strong leadership and a passion for continuous improvement are far more important than ticking every technology box.

Nice to Have

Experience with:

• Browser automation and web scraping tools such as Playwright or Puppeteer
• RAG evaluation frameworks
• Private or self-hosted AI models
• Working across both cloud-based and private AI environments
