Job description

Legal & General (L&G) is a leading UK financial services group and major global investor. We’ve been safeguarding people’s financial futures since 1836, and strive to build a better society, while improving the lives of our customers and creating value for shareholders.

L&G is one of the world’s largest asset managers and provides powerful asset origination capabilities. Together, these underpin our retirement and protection solutions: we are an international player in pension risk transfer, in UK and US life insurance, and in UK workplace pensions and retirement income.

L&G Institutional Retirement looks after around 700,000 institutional customers who have their retirement benefits secured with us. Operating continuously in the UK market from our entrance in 1987, we are the UK’s longest-running insurer. Our Institutional Retirement business is the UK’s longest-serving active bulk annuity provider.

Who we are

Institutional Retirement is the only insurer to have been operating continuously in the UK market from our entrance in 1987 to the present day. Our UK retirement annuity book stands at an estimated £86.1 billion at 31 December 2023. Across our retail and institutional retirement businesses, we look after more than 1 million customers, around 700,000 of whom are institutional customers who have had their retirement benefits secured with us.

At L&G, we believe it’s possible to generate positive returns today while helping to build a better future for all.

Job Description

We are seeking a Business Change Manager to lead and support the successful adoption of change across our transformation programmes. This pivotal role is focused on the people side of change, ensuring that business change initiatives are effectively embedded and aligned with strategic objectives.

The Business Change Manager will drive engagement and adoption across changes to business processes, policies, governance, systems, technology, data, roles, and organisational structures. Collaborating closely with project teams, business stakeholders, HR, communications, learning and development, and senior leadership, the role will champion change readiness, foster alignment, and help realise measurable benefits.

What you'll be doing

  • Developing and implementing human-centred change strategies that promote adoption, reduce resistance, and ensure clarity across stakeholder groups
  • Identifying and engaging key stakeholders to build alignment, assess resistance, and integrate mitigation plans into change delivery
  • Conducting impact and readiness assessments to evaluate the scale, scope, and preparedness for upcoming changes
  • Collaborating with Learning & Development and subject matter experts to assess training needs and design effective learning pathways
  • Crafting and delivering targeted communications tailored to stakeholder groups to build awareness and understanding of change impacts
  • Designing and facilitating engaging change interventions—such as coaching and workshops—to embed new ways of working
  • Tracking and reporting on adoption, engagement, and competency metrics to measure the effectiveness of change activities
  • Reviewing system and process changes with business stakeholders to assess their impact on customer journeys and outcomes

Qualifications

  • Professional certification in Change Management (e.g. Prosci, APMG) or equivalent practical experience is highly desirable
  • Strong grasp of change management principles, methodologies, and tools, with the ability to apply them effectively across transformation programmes
  • Proven track record of delivering end-to-end, people-centred change within business or technology transformation initiatives
  • Deep understanding of how individuals experience change, including familiarity with the change curve and behavioural responses
  • Experience influencing and collaborating with stakeholders at all levels to drive alignment and embed change
  • Skilled in facilitating workshops, crafting stakeholder communications, and supporting leaders through periods of transition
  • Knowledge of organisational design and operating model change, with the ability to translate strategy into actionable change plans
  • Comfortable working with HR, L&D, and Internal Communications to design and deliver targeted change interventions that drive adoption and measurable benefits

Benefits

  • The opportunity to participate in our annual, performance-related bonus plan and valuable share schemes
  • Generous pension contribution
  • Life assurance
  • Healthcare Plan (permanent employees only)
  • At least 25 days holiday, plus public holidays, 26 days after 2 years’ service. There’s also the option to buy and sell holiday
  • Competitive family leave
  • Participate in our electric car scheme, which offers employees the option to hire a brand-new electric car through tax efficient salary sacrifice (permanent employees only)
  • There are the many discounts we offer – both for our own products and at a range of high street stores and online
  • In 2023, some of our workspaces were redesigned. Our offices are great spaces to connect and collaborate and have your wellbeing at the heart

Additional Information

At L&G, we believe it’s possible to generate positive returns today while helping to build a better future for all. If you join us, you’ll be part of a welcoming, inclusive culture, with opportunities to collaborate with people of diverse backgrounds, views, and experiences. Guided by leaders with integrity who care about your future and wellbeing. Empowered through initiatives which support people to develop their careers and excel. We care passionately about outcomes and are open to discussing flexible working options including part-time, term-time and job shares where possible.
