About Alerter Group

At Alerter Group, we've been working in this field for nearly 25 years. We're proud that our products are now installed in thousands of buildings across the UK, helping millions of people in the process.

We're looking for a FIELD ENGINEER to join our established team in Derby.

In this role, you'll be a valued central member of the team, providing an important engineering service for our systems and related products.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join an innovative, people-centred company that is well-recognised in its field.

Role overview:
  • Hours of work: Annualised hours - based on a 40hr week - Mon-Fri
  • Salary: £28,000 - £32,000 dependant on experience
  • Location: Mostly at customer sites, throughout UK (You’ll also be required to spend time at our Derby Head Office, for meetings/training and to collect stock etc).
  • Reports to: Chief Engineer and Operations Manager/Director.
What's involved?
  • Ensuring all required equipment is available and packed safely for transit to the customer.
  • Assisting System Engineers to:
    • Carry out full radio site surveys of customer sites.
    • Complete all necessary paperwork relating to site surveys.
  • Carrying out:
    • Installation work safely and efficiently as per site survey documents.
    • Commissioning of installations to correct laid-down standards.
    • Preventative maintenance visits at customer sites.
    • Walk-tests on customer sites to ensure full coverage.
  • Liaising onsite with the customers’ representatives and system users.
  • Attending fault calls – diagnosing and fixing as required.
  • Carrying out installation, routine maintenance and repair of related communication systems.
  • Other duties designated by the Chief Engineer or Board of Management, as required.
You'll also need to:
  • Adhere to all Health and Safety rules & legislation and customer/site rules.
  • Complete timesheets and expense forms accurately.
  • Attend training courses as required.
  • Liaise with the Operations Team regarding work schedules.
Important notes:

This role requires:

  • Driving to customer sites.
  • Being on the company's 24x7 call-out rota for customer support.
  • Some overnight stays (amounts vary from week to week).
  • The use of a ladder from time to time.
  • Completion of an enhanced DBS check.
What we offer:
  • 23 days annual leave per year plus Public Holidays, PLUS 1 additional day of annual leave per year served with the company (up to a maximum of 5).
  • Company pension.
  • A van for use on company business.
  • A mobile phone and laptop to use for company business.
  • Company polo shirts, trousers & fleeces to wear at work (employees will need to do their own washing and ironing!).
Our culture:

We started our journey more than two decades ago as a family-run company with a handful of employees. Today we’re a local business operating nationally.

We remain a relatively small team of about 30 people, and our colleagues have been with us for eight years on average (that’s about a third longer than the UK average!).

We know how important it is to enjoy work. That’s why we offer:

  • Quarterly social events (where you can meet up with colleagues from across the business and leave your usual job role behind for the day).
  • Provision of training courses appropriate to the job role.
We're an equal opportunities employer:

At Alerter Group we’re committed to encouraging equality, diversity and inclusion among our workforce, and eliminating unlawful discrimination.

Our key criteria for selection, promotion, training and reward is simple; the ability to do the job to the required standard. If you have the experience to succeed in this role, please get in touch.

We look forward to hearing from you.
